Later he traveled in Latin America learning traditional music from the native peoples. His performances include a recording of carnival music from Tlaxcala sponsored by the state government. He has worked with children ages 4-18 for six years in both Mexico and the U.S.

Mexican Songs & Games
Hugo does a tri-lingual program, teaching students songs and games in Spanish, English, and his native Pur’hepecha language. Students learn the games, dances, and hand gestures that accompany the songs.

Clay Flute Making
Students learn to make simple clay flutes based on their own designs. These are made from a special, self-hardening clay (that does not require firing). Students can make the flutes and take them home the same day. If time permits, Hugo teaches them some basic songs to play on their flutes.
Time needed: Minimum 3-hours

Papel Picado
Papel picado is the Mexican paper cutting most often seen around Day of the Dead festivities in October. Hugo teaches students to cut simple designs.
