Fernando Sacdalan

Fernando Sacdalan learned to make Filipino lanterns, or parol, growing up in the Philippines. The lanterns reflect the hybrid culture of the Philippines, combining Asian & Spanish Catholic influences. Each winter in the weeks before Christmas, Fernanco's family would make lanterns. Traditionally, the lanterns are made from bamboo and have candles for the light but Fernando now uses foam core, tissue paper, & low-wattage bulbs. He holds a certificate in sculpture from the Pacific Northwest College of Art and brings a wide range of artistic experience to his parol workshops.
