From left to right, Jerry Hudson, Bill Failing, Lesley Hallick and Marc Berg.
President, Jerry E. Hudson Portland
Jerry Hudson has been elected board president of the Oregon Historical Society for the 2010-2012 biennium. Hudson earned his Ph.D. in American History from Tulane University in 1965 and has been actively involved in the Oregon Historical Society for many years. Known for his administrative leadership, Jerry has furthered the mission of numerous nonprofit educational and cultural institutions in Oregon. He serves on the Board of the Collins Foundation, the PGE Foundation, the Portland Japanese Garden, the Library Foundation, the Regional Arts and Culture Council, and chairs the Board of Chalkboard.
Hudson’s distinguished career in education led him to become the President of Willamette University from 1980-1997, after which he became Executive Vice President of The Collins Foundation from 1997 - 2007. He is enthusiastic about leading the board at OHS, saying, "The Oregon Historical Society has been a state treasure since the late nineteenth century, and my goal is to encourage the people of Oregon to recognize the tremendous value OHS is to our past, present, and future. The research library and the museum are invaluable resources for the state and especially our local community. It is so inspiring to see busloads of young children learning more about their past as they tour the museum, or to watch scholars searching the historical records to enlighten our understanding of Oregon's past. I believe most people share this view of OHS and my goal is to encourage and solicit further utilization and support of this treasure in our midst."
Vice President, Bill Failing (Retired Communcations Executive; Consultant, Oregon Rail History Foundation; Advisor, Oregon Korea Foundation), Portland
Thirty years as business owner and manager of for-profit businesses has provided me with a wealth of knowledge to apply to a variety of for-profit and non-profit organizations. It has been very satisfying to have provided early leadership to many of those above organizations, and be able to appreciate now that the teams we built then are thriving organizations today.
